UV Absorption and Formulation Efficiency
ShieldBiso™ S is an oil-soluble triazine-based UV filter. Its utility derives from a high molar extinction coefficient across both the UVB (290–320 nm) and UVA (320–400 nm) spectra. In practical application, significant SPF and UVA-PF contributions are observed at incorporation rates between 1% and 3% by weight. This level of efficiency reduces the necessity for high total actives loading. By maintaining a lower solids content, the formulation retains available oil phase capacity. This capacity can be allocated to volatile silicones or lightweight esters. The inclusion of such components serves to improve spreadability and reduce the greasy residual feel on the skin. Furthermore, the lipophilic nature of ShieldBiso™ S ensures its solubilization within the oil phase during standard emulsion processing. This stability prevents crystallization and supports the long-term physical integrity of the finished emulsion.
Global Regulatory Compliance
Regulatory approval is a prerequisite for market access. ShieldBiso™ S is listed in the China Safety and Technical Standards for Cosmetics, with a maximum authorized concentration of 10%. It is also included in Annex VI of the EU Cosmetic Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, permitting use up to 10%. A significant regulatory development occurred in June 2026, when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published its final order establishing Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine as a GRASE (Generally Recognized as Safe and Effective) ingredient for over-the-counter sunscreen drug products, allowing use at concentrations up to 6%.
